Bingo is the best medicine

Many people rely on a game of bingo as a main source of social interaction aside of course the fact that the game is very enjoyable to play. It seems that it has now been recognised that there are other benefits of playing the game after it has been revealed that the NHS is considering the introduction of bingo to wards. Is bingo the best medicine? Well it seems that it could be as the British Medical Association believes that periods of confinement delays patient recovery.

It is probably a long way off from people being able to take in their laptops and log onto their favourite bingo sites such as Think Bingo or WeLuvBingo. Nevertheless it is a start and something that is likely to be welcomed by the many people who love to play this traditional game.

It is believed that playing bingo is a cost effective way of speeding up the recovery of some patients. They are likely to be less reliant on pain killers and less likely to slip into depression which will in turn make their hospital stay much shorter and not so financially draining on the NHS. If the theory proves to be correct it could also prove that enabling patients to access the internet and log into bingo sites in the wards could save even more money as staff resources would not be so stretched to supervise the game as a group activity.

It will leave many people wondering that if the benefits of bingo are being recognised, whether it will strengthen the argument to lower the higher tax level that bingo halls are currently subjected to, which many have been campaigning to reduce for a long time.

It has not yet been decided whether the proposals will go ahead, but many people and particularly the elderly are likely to be very excited at the prospect of being able to play bingo while in hospital.
